New to hijama?

Your First Visit

Most people are a little nervous before their first session — that’s normal. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you book to the check-in message two days later, and honest answers to the questions people are shy to ask.

Step by step

From booking to the day-2 check-in

Unhurried, private and at your pace. Nothing here is a surprise on the day.

  1. Book

Choose men's (Muhammad) or ladies-only (Sister Maryam), pick a treatment and a time. Your confirmation email carries the exact address and a parking note; we WhatsApp you the day before with the address again.

  2. Arrive

Please arrive about 10 minutes early on a first visit. From the car, WhatsApp us the word "here" and we'll come to the door — it keeps things quiet for the household and for the client before you.

The “I’m here” message, ready to send
  3. A short chat and the consent form

We go through a two-page intake and consent form together: your contact details, a health screen (medications, pregnancy, diabetes, recent surgery, fasting, allergies) and what hijama is and isn't. If we think you should speak to your physician first, we'll say so.

Read or print the consent form ahead of time
  4. Your session

You lie face down on the table with only the area being worked on uncovered. Sealed single-use cups and the sterile blade are opened in front of you. Dry cups first, then the small incisions, then the cups go back on for a few minutes. You can pause or stop at any time.

  5. Aftercare before you leave

Sites are cleaned and covered with dressings. You rest a few minutes, sit up slowly and have some water. We talk through the first 24–48 hours and hand you an aftercare card. Payment is by cash or Interac e-Transfer; your receipt is emailed.

  6. Day-2 check-in

For Full Back and Full Body sessions we message you on day 2 to see how you're doing. Any time something worries you, call or WhatsApp — that's what we're here for.

The questions people are shy to ask

How it actually feels

Naming the worries first — pain, blood, hygiene, modesty — so there's nothing left to wonder about.

Will it hurt?

Most people describe the cup suction as a firm pull and the incisions as light scratches. Everything is done at your pace and you can stop at any time. First-timers often choose fewer points or a Dry Cupping session.

What about the blood?

Wet cupping does draw a small amount of blood into the cup. You won't see it unless you want to — you lie face down, and we cover, clean and dispose of everything before you sit up. We never photograph a session.

Is everything clean?

Every cup and blade comes from a sealed pack that is opened in front of you and goes into the sharps or biohazard container afterwards. We wear gloves, disinfect every surface between clients and change the table cover for every person.

Who will see me?

Men are seen by Muhammad, ladies only by Sister Maryam — in a private room with the door closed. Only the area being worked on is uncovered. Ladies are welcome to bring a female relative.

Afterwards most people feel relaxed and a little tired, and the round marks fade over a few days to two weeks. Aftercare, in full.

The consent form, in advance

Every first session starts with a two-page intake, health-screening and consent form that we fill in together. If you’d like to read it first — or print it and bring it filled in — here it is.

Hijama (wet cupping) and other cupping practices are traditional complementary wellness practices. They are not a substitute for medical diagnosis or care, and hijama is not a regulated health profession in Alberta. Please consult your physician about any health condition, and tell us before your session about medications, pregnancy, diabetes, bleeding disorders, fasting or recent surgery.
